The Brown Album: Sosamann
A full album rollout, run while the artist was incarcerated
Artist: Sosamann · Project: The Brown Album (14 tracks) · Released: May 22, 2026 · Features: Wiz Khalifa, That Mexican OT, OTB Fastlane, Big Yavo
The challenge
Sosamann envisioned The Brown Album as his magnum opus, in the line of car-covered classics like Jay-Z’s Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter II. But he turned himself in in August 2025, months before release. That meant no shows, no travel and no in-person promo. Every part of the rollout had to move without the artist in the room.
The approach: the Four Fronts of Music Marketing
Artist Development: preparing the business
Before a single stream, the foundation was set. A new distribution agreement was executed, metadata was delivered, split sheets were completed for all 14 tracks, and every song was registered with ASCAP, The MLC, SoundExchange and more.
Product Development: making and selling the record
The strategy was simple: if Sosamann couldn’t be everywhere, his music would be. Playlists, local radio and culture pages became his billboards.
The creative honored his vision, from his cars on the cover to a custom shade of brown, found with a Europe-based designer, that holds up on screen and in print. The physical CD was produced with a manufacturer in Portland, Oregon, with the disc printed as his Forgiato wheel.
Fans got two box sets: one for the music fan and one for the Trap Sauce cannabis fan. They came with minimalist shirts (blanks from California, printed in Houston), rolling trays, enamel pins and stickers, each one a walking billboard. Both sold out twice on trapsauce.net.
Publicity: keeping his voice in the culture
Sosamann called in to 97.9 The Beat in Dallas–Fort Worth for his first and only interview since August 2025. Support came from Say Cheese TV, Cap Season, Stay Down Productions, Dirty Glove Bastard, Dallas Global Media, High Thoughts TV and Networking The Streets, adding up to 5M views across social platforms.
Promotion: getting the music heard
A curated terrestrial and digital radio team carried the single “Doin It” to stations Sosamann couldn’t visit. It reached:
#108 on Mediabase Urban, climbing from #211
#72 on Mediabase Rhythmic
#64 on the DRT Global Top 100 (independent airplay)
563 spins and 11 stations in light rotation
Beyond local radio, “Doin It” played on SiriusXM Shade 45, and its video ran on BET Jams and Revolt. Meta ads targeted the same markets where radio was spinning the song, and the album landed 15 playlist placements, 5 of them editorial.
