Review | The League Of Extraordinary G’z – The Plug EP

00 Cover

The League Of Extraordinary G’z (which consists of C.O.D., Dred Skott and Southbound all hailing from Austin) partnered with Mr. Shane Eli to bring us The Plug EP that’s eight tracks full of dope lyrics and beats. Shane Eli has produced tracks for artists ranging from Diggy Simmons, Rittz and Tech N9ne to Earth, Wind & Fire. Shane also joined The LOEG’z in Atlanta on the roster of performers at A3C this year.

The Plug EP is the fourth project released by The LOEG’z following the Concealed Weapons 1, 2 and 3. It’s also their first collaborative effort since the passing of their brother Esbe “The 6th St. Bully” last October. Since his passing The LOEG’z are more focused than ever on getting their music out to the masses, and letting Esbe’s legacy live through their music.

My favorite tracks on The Plug EP are The Plug, Strange Things,You And I” and the leading single from the project “Hankuri.” (Fun fact: ‘sai hankuri’ means have patience in native languages spoken in Niger, Africa.)  The beat to “Hankuri” is so energetic. It’s like popping a B12. I’m sweating, WOO! I had to figure out where the guys got the inspiration for this song from. I Googled ‘hankuri’ and I discovered that they sampled Hankuri by Andrew ‘Madman’ Jaga, an African James Brown. Jaga was quite the dancer too. *cue I’ve got the moves like Jaga!*

You and I is what I would call a ghetto love song, but needless to say I like it. The vibe of this song is reminiscent of Jeezy’s “All We Do.” At some point in our lives we’ve all had that homie, lover, friend type of relationship, right?  No?  Sue me!  Reggie Coby also lent his vocals to this track. He’s a bit of a triple threat…rapper, singer & producer. He was a contestant on the latest installment of The Space City Beat Battle held in November at Fitzgerald’s.

I wish The LOEG’z the best of luck in the new year. Be sure to catch them live at The Plug EP‘s official release concert January 19th at North Door in Austin. M.i and Shane Eli will be special guest performances for the night.

“Shit won’t add up if it don’t equate. Simple math.”
