Rock Show AKA Show AKA brings to us Winter Is Coming. I guess he forgot about Fall? Either way the mixtape jams and I advise you to give Winter Is Coming a listen.
My favorite tracks on Winter Is Coming are “Hello Houston,“ ”On The Curb,” “The Realest” ft. Tha Centop, “Brand Name” and “Used To Be.”
“Hello Houston. Sorry I left you, but I’m right back. Ya oh so special. Seem like the game been tryna forget you. But I’m here. I’m gone make ‘em respect you.”
I don’t think the rap game has forgotten about Houston. I believe the rap game is just glorifying certain aspects of Houston life such as sippin’ lean and Chopped and Screwed music. It’s cool that artists from outside the city are influenced by that, but open your mind and don’t put Houston in a box. That’s discrediting Houston rappers.
I don’t want to label Rock Show’s music as trap rap but if I do ‘the trap rap dance’ to it then it’s trap rap. Don’t know what the trap rap dance is? Whatever dance you do in your car when “Same Damn Time” comes on is the trap rap dance! That’s the dance I started doing once the beat dropped on “Brand Name.“
I felt like Pimp C would pop up somewhere on this tape and he did. I didn’t know the song right off the bat, but I did finally find it! Rock Show took the line “I used to be a young drug dealer, now I’ma young girl stealer” from “Pourin’ Up” and turned it into “Used To Be.“ I love when rappers take lines from a song and make it into another song. Is that called something? I think I’ll call it “line flipping.”
